The Chief of the Nigerian Army expressed his frustration over the situation where bodies are decaying in military morgues due to power outages caused by the military’s N42 billion electricity debt.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, raised concerns about the blackouts causing corpses to decay in military mortuaries.
This was revealed during his meeting with the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The minister’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji, has said on Friday.
The army chief urged for the settlement of the N42 billion electricity debt owed by army units to electricity distribution companies.
Lagbaja expressed concerns that the ongoing power outages were having a negative impact on the preservation of bodies in army mortuaries, leading to protests from the families of the deceased individuals.
Lagbaja also mentioned that the army could not gather enough funds to settle the entire debt, suggesting a liquidation similar to what was done in 2005 by the former President.
Adelabu assured that he would help the army renegotiate their N42 billion debt payment if they agreed to consistent bill payments.
Recently, it was revealed that the AEDC warned of cutting off electricity to the Presidential Villa and other government offices due to an accumulated debt of N47.1 billion.
