The Former Bursar of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Elijah Oladapo, has been found guilty of fraud by Hon. Justice A. L. Ogunmoye of the Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
This was made known in a statement Signed by the Spokesperson, ICPC Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, he was charged in 2021 by the ICPC for allegedly accepting kickbacks totaling over N500,000 from a contractor working on construction projects at the institution along with the former Rector, Mrs. Theresa Taiwo Akande.
“The Commission filed a 9-count charge against the accused before the court, stating that their actions violated certain sections of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
“When the charges were read to them, the accused persons pleaded not guilty, marking the beginning of a lengthy trial. In the course of the trial, it was revealed that in 2015, the convict misused his position by demanding and accepting kickbacks from a contractor involved in constructing and furnishing lecture halls and offices in the school.
“In the judgement, Justice Ogunmoye acquitted Mrs. Akande of counts 1-3 but found Mr. Oladapo guilty of charges in counts 4-9. As a result, Mr. Oladapo was sentenced to 5 years in prison or a fine of N1.2m for counts 4-7 and 2 years in prison without an option of fine for counts 8-9. Oladapo has been taken to a correctional facility to serve his sentence.”
