The Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA) has refuted claims of raising fees in public boarding schools within the federal capital.
The Secretary of Education Secretariat of FCTA, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, addressed this issue during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
This comes after Several parents alleged said that the FCT Administration had raised the school fees for students in public boarding schools in the FCT.
The fees had gone up from N29,000 and N32,000 to N47,000, leading some parents to transfer their children from boarding to day schools. However, Hayyo refuted these allegations, stating, “This information is incorrect; it is not true.
Hayyo Said, “The Minister of FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, has agreed to raise the feeding allowances for boarding schools because of the increasing prices of food items.
He pointed out how the cost of a bag of rice has escalated over the last two years. Hayyo emphasized that there haven’t been reports of parents removing their children from public boarding schools in the FCT, highlighting that these schools offer high-quality education at reasonable prices that parents can manage.
He expressed skepticism that anyone would withdraw their children from public school due to the cost of feeding. Additionally, he highlighted the high standard of education in public schools, pointing out that the top performer in the 2023 West African Examination Council came from a public school.
