President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning to corrupt officials in Nigeria, instructing international investors to report any demands for bribes or hindrances to progress directly to his office.
Speaking at the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum in Doha, President Tinubu assured investors that his administration is committed to removing all obstacles to profitable and legitimate business ventures in the country.
“We are removing obstacles today and we are going to continue to remove all obstacles. Do not let perceptions become a hindrance to your will to invest. Nigeria is serious about revolutionizing investment promotion,” Tinubu declared.
Emphasising the importance of transparency and integrity in government dealings, Tinubu urged investors not to offer bribes to officials and to report any unethical behaviour they encounter.
He assured them of direct access to his office and promised swift action against any official found guilty of obstruction or corruption.
The President also highlighted the appointment of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as National Security Adviser, as a significant step towards strengthening the fight against corruption and insecurity in Nigeria.
“We have a man who has won many global awards for anti-corruption as an anti-corruption czar. My responsibility is to tell you that Nigeria is open for business and to assure you that your investments are safe in our hands,” Tinubu stated.
In response to President Tinubu’s assurances, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, expressed his country’s eagerness to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria.
He highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas such as low-carbon initiatives, mineral products, petroleum chemicals, and industry.
A statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,
Ajuri Ngelale on Sunday, the Nigerian delegation, including prominent figures such as Governors and Ministers, joined President Tinubu in showcasing the vast opportunities available in Nigeria across various sectors.
The President urged investors not to miss out on the golden opportunity to partner with Nigeria in its journey towards prosperity and development.
