The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert regarding the sale of falsified Paracetamol Injection discovered by its Post-Marketing Surveillance unit in Abuja.
According to the alert posted on the agency’s official X account on Wednesday, the falsified Paracetamol Injection was labelled as “Paracetamol Injection 300mg/2ml I.M I. V Aminoglycoside Antibacterial,” suggesting it contained both Paracetamol and Aminoglycoside Antibacterial agents. However, laboratory analysis conducted by NAFDAC Laboratory in Kaduna revealed that the product only contained Paracetamol, contradicting its labelled composition.
In response to the discovery, NAFDAC noted that it has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and eliminate the falsified product within their respective zones and states.
Additionally, importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and caregivers are urged to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the falsified product.
NAFDAC also urged stakeholders to obtain medical products only from authorized/licensed suppliers and to carefully verify the authenticity and physical condition of the products.
