The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is set to host the 4th Annual Online Conference for Registered Teachers on October 16-17, 2024, gathering over 3,000 educators to address critical global issues surrounding teacher quality and shortages.
Themed “Advancing Teacher Professionalization in Nigeria Towards Education 2030: Challenges, Strategies and Prospects,” the event aims to promote continuous professional development among teachers.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr. Stella-Maria Nwokeocha, emphasised the conference’s significance, stating, “As the ‘Giant of Africa,’ Nigeria faces significant challenges in the education sector, including teacher shortages and the need for ongoing skills enhancement.”
The conference will delve into essential topics such as quality teaching, lifelong learning, and professional upskilling.
With over 3,000 registrations already confirmed, Nwokeocha noted that participation is free for all teachers, enhancing inclusivity.
The event will feature both national and international experts discussing various facets of teacher professionalization.
To expand its reach, the conference will be live-streamed on TRCN and UNESCO Nigeria’s social media platforms, with viewing centers established in several states.
Nwokeocha highlighted TRCN’s pioneering role in teacher professionalisation in Africa, noting its global recognition and accreditation by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
The conference represents a significant step towards improving educational standards in Nigeria, with a call for continued support from stakeholders to maintain TRCN’s leading position in the continent’s educational landscape.
