The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning against alcohol abuse among Nigerian youths, citing it as a major cause of crime in the country.
Kazeem Adeniran, NAFDAC’s Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer of the Investigation and Enforcement Department, emphasised the correlation between alcohol abuse and the surge in criminal activities during a press briefing on Friday.
Adeniran urged the youth to refrain from alcohol abuse, highlighting the potential destructive impact on their future.
He also linked some road traffic crashes to motorists under the influence of alcohol, underscoring the detrimental effects on cognitive functions.
He called on companies in the country to collaborate with NAFDAC in combating alcohol abuse.
“The agency is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of alcohol abuse and is committed to intensifying public enlightenment campaigns.”
NAFDAC aims to foster a sense of responsibility and ensure societal well-being by curbing the misuse of alcohol.
