In response to the high cost of drugs and the exit of multinational pharmaceutical companies from Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu is deeply disturbed by the situation and is working tirelessly to find a solution.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa disclosed this during the official commissioning of a new clinical complex at the Federal Medical Centre in Ebutte Metta in Lagos.
Alausa assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Health is actively seeking sustainable ways to tackle the problem.
He emphasised that President Tinubu is determined to establish comprehensive and durable healthcare systems for Nigerians. Stating, “Mr. President is having sleepless nights on this drug scarcity. He has discussed with us what we need to do,” he said. “What President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants for this country is sustainable, durable, comprehensive health care. He doesn’t want us to scratch the surface.”
Acknowledging the challenging circumstances, Alausa urged Nigerians to be patient and bear with the government.
He expressed confidence that things will improve shortly, as the ministry is diligently working on multifaceted solutions to address the high cost of drugs and ensure the availability of essential medications.
